Scripting is an easy way to add interactivity to your websites as it more or less resembles a loosely 'typed' programming language. Javascript is another idea by Sun while VBScript is Microsoft's answer. VBscript works together with ActiveX which provides a very powerful and easy way to make web pages interactive.

CGI scripts are server side scripts written in high level programming languages. perl 5 is a widely used tool to create CGI scripts.
